Best viewing = days 2–7 after full bloom. Tap a card or a dot on the map for details.
First bloom, full bloom and petal fall each last about 5 days (estimated).
Just the spots you want to visit, sorted by best viewing date. Dates are based on the historical average and adjusted automatically where this year's forecast is available. The list is stored in this device's browser.
★ Must-see: tap the ☆ before a spot's name to turn it into ★. The Trip planner always includes must-see spots and tries to schedule them during their best viewing period; spots without ★ may be left out to avoid extra hotel changes. Tap again to remove it.

When the news says "full bloom" (mankai), it often only means a few trees in the area have reached about 80%. JMA defines full bloom as "about 80% of the buds on the sample tree have opened", so the most beautiful time comes a few days after the full-bloom announcement.
That is why I treat days 2–7 after full bloom as the best viewing period: by day 2 most trees are in full bloom, and it lasts until the petals start falling like snow (sakura fubuki) but before they are gone. Even if the trees bloom unexpectedly early and petals are already falling when you arrive, the falling blossoms are lovely too, so don't worry too much about being late.
This part is personal experience, for reference only.
Add up the daily mean temperature from Feb 1; the trees bloom on the day the total reaches 400°C.
Add up the daily maximum temperature from Feb 1; the trees bloom on the day the total reaches 600°C.
Temperatures are similar within a region, but spots bloom at different times. So each region uses one spot as an "anchor" calculated with the rules, and every other spot adds its average difference from the anchor. In Kyushu the rules are no more accurate than the historical average, so Kyushu simply uses the historical average: in years with a warm winter, the flower buds there wake from dormancy more slowly and can bloom later instead (in 2024 the rule predicted about 6 days early, but bloom was about 3 days late). A rule that only adds up temperatures from Feb 1 cannot catch this.
